Our weekly documentary film curated by the editorial team at 21WIRE.
This documentary exposes key aspects of one of the most disturbing chapters in British imperial history: the suppression of Kenya’s Mau Mau rebellion against their British colonial masters. The film shows how in the wake of World War II, a flailing British Empire had tried to suppress this anti-colonial uprising through campaigns of military terror and by attempting confining some 1.5 million Kenyans to a network of brutal concentration camps and deploying the British military to patrol the country’s villages. It was a tale of systematic violence and high-level cover-ups, and remains shocking even today.
