On March 9, 2016, the worlds of Go and A.I. collided in South Korea for an extraordinary best-of-five-game competition spearheaded by Google, entitled, “The DeepMind Challenge Match.” Millions watched as the legendary Go master battled with unproven AI challenger and its team of operators in this historic event. What everyone learned was truly profound, and also deeply unsettling. What can artificial intelligence reveal about a 3000-year-old game?
