Our weekly documentary film curated by our editorial team at 21WIRE.
This seminal documentary film, When Playboys Ruled the World – Barry Sheene and James Hunt, is a quintessential cultural snapshot of 20th century days of yore – when sporting heroes both entertained and held court as a central focus of the national conversation, and beyond. Two British motor racing icons – James Hunt and Barry Sheene, both winning their world titles in 1976 and subsequently became friends off the track, living life to the absolute maximum, much of which was done in the public eye, including all the highs and lows. Both drivers braved real risks in competition in an age before today’s all pervasive ‘health and safety’ culture which has since rendered their sport largely anodyne in comparison.
